a loving re-introduction
deeply greeting you into this new space which has received a new makeover of sorts, reflecting the desires of my heart and motivated by a fierce leaning into the chaos of being reliant on platforms and systems that are broken, inflexible, messy. as some of you know, I had an issue receiving payment here due to a mysterious error that caused my stripe account to become disconnected from this newsletter and no clear immediate way to re-connect. short story, I ended up having to cancel everyone’s paid subscription in order to reconnect (and was charged money in the process), so if you feel called, I invite you to (re)join at the paid level to support this work.
now to a proper hello —
My name is Cy X (they/we) and I am a queer agender cyber witch, pleasure ceremonialist, sonic alchemist, and cultural worker based in Brooklyn, NY with familial roots in Atlanta, GA. I recently graduated from New York University’s Interactive Telecommunication Program where I spent two years learning about the possibilities of art, design, and technology through the lens of cyber witchcraft and rituals and often primarily in the mediums of sound and video. I am also the co-founder of Synth Library NYC, a community hub providing access to electronic music instruments, education, and care.
Since graduating, my curiosities have since expanded as my studies in energy work + rituals + herbalism have rooted me in an even deeper connection with rituals, magical practices, animism, and ceremonies. My work now spans to containers rooted in the same inquiries: an artistic practice (cyberwitch666) + apothecary carework practice (pleasure ceremony).
black magic (formerly sonic sessions) is an at-least monthly collection of cosmologies, myths, reflections, and conversations about technology, magic, care, and intimacy. I am eager to be open and share thoughts + questions. As always, you are welcome to reply! Although the name is changing, I will still be engaging with sound and music as listening and vibrational work is an essential part of my practice.
talk more soon xoxo
