Hello, my dear friends,
I’m writing to you from the quiet suburbs of Atlanta, GA. Beside me, a black Cocker Spaniel squirms, seeking relief from his itchy ears. The silence outside is both calming and unsettling, leaving me in that strange space between over- and understimulated.
This newsletter is meant to bring you updates, but before diving in, I want to share my dreams for this space. I envision it as a reflection of my practice, my dreams, and the tangled web of ideas that guide my life. This past year, my practice has been a delicate dance between survival and creation—lying fallow in some areas while urgently producing in others. Right now, I’m navigating the overwhelming bureaucracy that comes with an international move. It’s a consuming, difficult process that’s forcing me to acknowledge a shift in my relationship with New York. I’m leaving again, it seems, at least for a while (although I will be back in November haha). So, as I prepare for October, this blog will mainly feature life updates, with new writing to follow once I’ve settled in, whatever that means.
First up – I’m producing a show! On Thursday, September 12th, join me at Hex House for Three Flower Freaks. The vibes will be eco-erotic, cabaret-esque, flirty, sensual, and deeply participatory. I’m thrilled about the lineup, which features my friend Candi X’s touring show, How To Fuck a Flower, along with special performances by Miss Philip, Hex House’s resident flower goddess, and Eternal Oyster, the eco-sound-witch. Tickets are sliding scale ($10-30), and no one will be turned away for lack of funds.
Next, on September 22nd, I’ll be performing at wav.pool 2 at Hell Phone alongside Aliya Pabani and Evan J Cartwright. The event, brought to you by Constellations and That Intimate Feeling, will explore themes close to my heart. I’ll be diving into something intimate, something with my holes.
“We’ve invited 3 electric audio makers working in and ~beyond~ podcasting to share new audio and performance works that promise to dazzle, shock, and inspire you about what is possible with this medium. It's a splash pad for audio extravagance and experimentation, with no corporate sponsors or noise bros attached. Featuring MCing by two adorable worms (it’s a surprise)”
Then, on October 1st, I’ll be leading a session with the Institute for Postnatural Studies’ Cyberwitch series. My session, titled Eros Study: Teledildonics – An Eco-Techno-Sensual Practice and Design Study of the Erotics of the Internet and Its Computational Companions, will explore the interplay of technology and sensuality.
Looking ahead into the further future, I’m curating an Open Studios at Center for Performance Research on November 14th. Artists to be announced.
Lastly, I’m excited to share that I’m featured in two publications! The Queer Ecologies Research Collective (QuERC), which I’m a part of, has created a collective glossary, and our work is featured in the latest issue of Antennae: The Journal of Nature and Visual Culture. This publication coincidentally came out on the first day of our second in-person retreat, QuERC 2.
And in the upcoming The Other Almanac 2025, a reimagining of The Old Farmer's Almanac, you’ll find my piece on eco-somatic practices and Dandelion.
Thank you for being on this journey with me. If you want to support me on my next journey, here is my GoFundMe. Until October and beyond, let’s keep creating, dreaming, and blooming together.
With love and gratitude,
Cy X
