Through Chaos and Abundance
hello lovers, friends, dreamers, and majestic beings.
I’ve been debating whether to write here or when I should. But today I felt called so here I am. Currently, I am in the midst of a battle with Substack after the realization that I have not actually been receiving money from the paid subscriptions. There aren’t many paid subscriptions but there are some and for some reason (and with no notification) there are supposedly verification issues that have halted payment. Hopefully it is just a small issue and I will receive the generosity that you all have kindly sent my way, but please be on the lookout for information around that.
regardless if the issue is simple, small, big, intentional, or unintentional, it is a reminder of the many ways where trust is broken and communication is neglected within platforms that we often use. In this case, there was no notification sent informing me of the error, no email sent when payments were/weren’t dispersed, and thus far no accountability but I am offering the space for that to occur. how do we design and create for communication and transparency to exist so that accountability can take place and so that we can move with a bit more ease and less resistance. but alas, I’m here to talk about many other things rather than be distracted by systems.
spring is here. I’ve been praying for abundance everyday and I have received abundantly every day!!
I started seeds indoors for the first time and over compensated because I thought many of them wouldn’t grow. But then most of them did…and I had to repot them so now I have thirty one pots in my room with most under my desk. The weather has been quite all over the place in April so the pots are not quite ready to be taken outside. So we wait and we listen to what the earth has to say about accomodating these new babies. If you ever video chat with me, just know this is happening right below the screen!
Some current + upcoming things:
The Computer Mouse Conference
I had the exciting opportunity to contribute to this years Computer Mouse Conference organized and moderated by Emma Rae Bruml & Ashley Jane Lewis and presented by CultureHub with support from The Processing Foundation, The Media Archaeology Lab, and The Coding Train.
It will take place on a web page on Apr 29th and 30th. Through lectures, video performances, live panel discussions, writing, a live zine, and a computer mouse tear-down workshop participants will explore the question: what does the mouse see?
In true cyber witch fashion, I look at the relationship between the computer mouse and the magical wand through the lens of speculative design, magic, and care.
Rewire Festival
I re-imagined In Pursuit of Black Noise for a commissioned performance by Rewire Festival. As some of you know, the original project was technically also a performance. In the uploaded video, the sound and glitches were done live and captured in what now lives as the “final” piece. My body, however, was removed making the idea of the performance perhaps a bit more unapparent. What does the present body visible in a video communicates? What does the obscured / hidden / non-captured body communicate?
Rewire is happening online May 6-9th and tickets are donation based! Would love to see you there.
Want to give such a special thanks and shoutout to Izzy Commers who was the most amazing videographer, lighting artist, and production bae for this project. They are doing a lot of amazing exploration right now with light which makes my brain tingle.
ATM MAGAZINE
Issue 2 of OBSERVANCE just came out and I have a new song and some AI-generated art featured! The song “A Ritual is, A Ritual was,” is a reflection on my specific journey and the journey to come. In the midst of doing a lot of magical work, which I can’t wait to share with you all in the coming weeks.
If you’d like to listen, the song is featured here on the collective altar space on the homepage and alongside the AI generated art here.
LAST UPDATE
Is that I’m graduating in May from New York University’s Interactive Telecommunications Program. Life after is a medium-sized question mark. If you’d like to collaborate on something this summer would be a beautiful opportunity to do so! And as always, my dms are open for chatting about any and everything and you can always even reply directly to this email. I love a good email thread.
PHEEW ok. This is not even half of the things I’d like to talk about, so expect more soon. Much love to you all who have stuck with me in this space <3
